Gunman Shoots Victims in Aurora CO Movie Theater Showing of The Dark Night Rises

A gunman entered a crowded Aurora movie theatre at a midnight showing of The Dark Night Rises and opened fire on on innocent victims.  12 people were killed and over 50 were injured.  The gunman reportedly used tear gas, an AR-15, a shotgun and two Glocks on his killing rampage.  He has been identified as James Egan Holmes (no relation to the owner of this Club) and he is currently in police custody.

This is an unimaginable tragedy and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

Unfortunately this will also be an opportunity for the anti-gun fanatics to once again condem gun ownership in America.  In fact, the Brady Campaign is already politicizing this event. The Brady people currently have this story plastered across their homepage with a link to a petition to congress to restrict gun ownership.

Our position is different.  We believe, and this tragedy proves, that we live in an increasingly dangerous society.  We believe that defending yourself from violence is an inalienable right granted to every law abiding citizen of this country. We believe that the best means of personal protection is to responsibly arm yourself, to learn proper gun usage and  safety precautions and to practice frequently and consistently to hone your skills.

We don’t know if anyone in the theatre was armed.  At this time, there are no reports of any victims in the Aurora movie theater shooting back during the attack. It has also been reported that the gunman wore full body armor.  This means that you would have had to hit him in the face or have had a large enough caliber gun to at least knock him down. This takes both training and practice. But at least an armed citizen would have had a fighting chance.

We all hope that this never happens to us, but if we are ever faced with this type of situation, we plan on fighting back. Under the Training tab on this website, you can get information about legally obtaining a Concealed Carry Permit in Colorado.
